Michael Loom

Michael Loom is the firms C.A. Manager, specialising in audit, taxation and assisting clients in the managing and development of their businesses. He is a qualified Chartered Accountant and Registered Tax Agent.

Michael qualified in England as a Chartered Accountant in 1967 and migrated to Australia in 1969 where he joined Deloitte Haskins & Sells (later to become Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu). In 1971 he joined Priestly and Morris Chartered Accountants and in 1973 joined Price Waterhouse as an audit manager. At Price Waterhouse he continued as an audit manager until 1980 when he transferred into their Corporate Advisory Services Section.

Between 1963 and 1980 Michael had extensive audit experience and was responsible for the audits of many large, medium and small businesses. His experience covers a whole range of industries including shipping, finance, aviation, retail, wholesale distribution and manufacturing. Listed companies audited by Michael include Angus & Coote and Yates Seeds, whilst he was also responsible for large multi national audits such as Thomas Cook and Amoco Oil.

In 1980 Michael transferred into the Price Waterhouse Corporate Advisory Services section as a manager where he was responsible for the successful opening of the Chatswood office in that section. His clients covered a range of industries and involved the provision of corporate, accounting and taxation services.

From 1984 to 2001 Michael worked in commerce and industry where he worked largely in the automotive and telecommunication industries. His positions included CFO of a large multi national company between 1986 and 1994. During that period, he was promoted to CEO until the company was sold in 1997. As CEO he turned around the company from an annual loss of $3 million to a final annual profit of $1 million (the first time the company had made a profit in 30 years). In 1997 he became the CEO of a medium sized telecommunications company and by 2001 had turned the company around from an annual loss of $1 million to an annual profit in excess of $2 million.

In 2001 Michael joined Grubers Beckett where he has worked closely with Alf Gruber on large audits, company valuations and provision of management advisory services to their clients
